Radiation Exposure and Homeopathy

American Association of Homeopathic Pharmacists (AAHP) Encourages Consumers to see their Physician Regarding Treatment and Prevention of Symptoms Following Radiation Exposure

In light of the widespread news articles regarding possible elevated levels of radiation in the western United States there has been an increased interest in homeopathic treatments for symptoms of exposure to excessive radiation. The American Association of Homeopathic Pharmacists (AAHP), representing the major manufacturers and distributors in the industry, wishes to inform the public of its view of the sale of homeopathic medication to prevent or treat symptoms associated with exposure to excessive radiation.

There is no homeopathic literature, nor clinical trials, that adequately support the use of a homeopathic drug for use as prophylaxis for or treatment of environmental exposure to excessive radiation.

Homeopathic medicines containing Iodide such as Iodium, Bromium Iodatum (made from Bromium Iodide), Kalium Iodatum (made from Potassium Iodide), etc. should not be used as a replacement for Potassium Iodide tablets. Homeopathic preparations are made with very different levels of Potassium Iodide than commercially available Potassium Iodide tablets

The use of Iodide supplementation is not without risks. Accordingly, the AAHP recommends that questions regarding treatment or prevention of symptoms associated with exposure to excessive radiation should be directed to your physician or pharmacist.
