Position Statement Concerning Transdermal Homeopathic Products
The American Association of Homeopathic Pharmacists does not endorse the formulation, manufacture, or sale of homeopathic products in the transdermal delivery system dosage form until such time as full and complete studies of safety and efficacy for its use with homeopathic medicine have been performed and evaluated.
Transdermal delivery systems i.e. homeopathic medicine applied to the skin in sufficient quantity to be absorbed through the skin to the vasculature to produce a therapeutic systemic effect, have not been the subject of published homeopathic research or clinical verification to establish their effective clinical use. The symptom pictures published in classical material medica were not developed utilizing or including the Transdermal delivery system dosage form. Transdermal delivery systems do not appear in the current edition of the Homeopathic Pharmacopoeia of the United States, nor have any transdermal delivery systems been presented for review or inclusion in the HPUS. Accordingly, the AAHP believes that these systems are non-official and not a dosage form that meet the current Criteria for Eligibility of Drugs for Inclusion in the HPUS.
